Baseball - Mon, Nov. 25, 2013

SHREVEPORT, La. - Members of the LSU Shreveport Pilots baseball team volunteered their time to help the Salvation Army spread the love of the holiday season by being door greeters at local businesses.

LSUS Head Coach Al Cantwell was excited the opportunity presented itself for LSUS Baseball to help out the Salvation Army, "Coach Lavallee made the contact with the Salvation Army. Being able to meet and interact with so many people in the Shreveport Community while volunteering for such a great cause was an awesome experience for all of us."

The Pilots stood at the entrances to JC Penny's located in the shopping center on Youree Drive in addition to the Brookshires on East Kings Highway. Their mission was to collect donations by standing in for Bell Ringers for the Salvation Army and wish people a Happy Thanskgiving.

The players even helped people to their cars with their purchases from the store. The Pilots worked in shifts to cover the span of three six-hour days.

Coach Cantwell continued on how this brings teams closer, "Baseball brings us together every day, but its experiences like this that build a foundation for all of us to get to know each other on a much more personal level. Ringing bells for the Salvation Army may not have much to do with baseball, but I believe it helps build and show the character of our guys who all came through with a big hit."
