KANSAS CITY, Mo. --- LSUS once again finds themselves in the top of the polls. For the fifth consecutive year, LSUS has been selected a Champions of Character Five-Star Institution. LSUS was one of only thirty institutions to achieve a Gold-Star rating. The NAIA began the gold, silver, and bronze ratings last year and LSUS is now two for two in earing the top award. Out of the 236 member institutions of the NAIA, 170 received the five-star award. As mentioned earlier, only 30 institutions received the gold star rating.
The Pilots earned 92 points on the NAIA Champions of Character scorecard. This score was outdone by only 18 other member institutions. In 2009 – 2010, the NAIA initiated this annual recognition of five-star institutions. Each of those five years, LSUS has received this great honor. This marks the second consecutive year the Pilots earned the score of 92.
This season was the second time the NAIA implemented a tiered system for honoring its five-star institutions. The NAIA recognized athletic programs as gold, silver or bronze five-star institutions, based off of point total. LSUS was one of 30 gold level institutions (90 or above), 67 silver level (75-90) and 72 bronze level institutions (60-74).
Points are calculated off of a yearly scorecard that is created by the NAIA Champions of Character committee.
