LANGSTON, Okla. – The LSU Shreveport Pilots men's basketball team won their third consecutive game on Saturday afternoon and their second in Red River Athletic Conference action with a 78-74 win over the Langston Lions. The Pilots improve to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the RRAC while the Lions fall to 6-4 and 0-2 in the league.
The Pilots prevailed in a contest that was nip and tuck the whole way as the score was tied on 12 different occasions while the Lions led by just four points while the Pilots were the only one to stretch the lead to double digits and led by 10 several times.
The Lions fought their way back and tied the game at 72 with 1:28 to play. But down the stretch Benjamin Batts (JR/Saginaw, Michigan) received a pass from Josh Walker (SR/Fairview, Louisiana) five seconds later and he drained it from downtown to give the Pilots the lead for good as they held on to win by four after Rashard Owens (SR/Bossier City, Louisiana) made the back end of two shots from the charity stripe.
LSUS produced five double-digit scorers led by Uzonna Akazi (SR/Queens, New York) with 14 points while C. J. McGill (JR/Tampa, Florida) added 13, Owens 12, Batts 11, and had 10 from Walker. The Pilots edged the Lions in the rebounding category 36-33 and were led by Batts with 11.
Tyrell Jones recorded the game's only double-double with the game leading 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Lions.
