ALEXANDRIA, La. – The LSU Shreveport women's basketball team moved into sole possession in first place in the Red River Athletic Conference regular season standings with their 85-76 win over the LSU Alexandria Generals on Wednesday night at The Fort. The Pilots improve to 6-6 overall and 3-0 in the RRAC while the Generals lost their 5th straight to slip to 1-5 and 0-3.
The Pilots shot 43-percent in route to producing five double digit scorers and were led by Courtney Randle (SR/Lamarque, Texas) with 22 points and Kourtney Pennywell (SR/Shreveport, Louisiana) who tossed in 20 to accompany her 12 rebounds for one of only two double-doubles in the contest. Chaterra Cage (SR/Port Arthur, Texas) added 14 points while Bria Freeland (SR/Austin, Texas) and Johnesha Major (SR/DeSoto, Texas) each added 10 points. The two 10-point scorers also led the team totaling 12 of their 18 assists as Major led the game with seven while Freeland had five.
This contest was a back-and-forth battle as the score was tied nine difference times while the lead changed sides seven times and neither team led by more than 14 when LSUS held that margin with 3:33 to play in the 4th quarter.
