SHREVEPORT, La. – The 13th-ranked LSU Shreveport Pilots had a tough time with the visiting Texas Wesleyan Rams on Tuesday afternoon at Pilot Field as the Rams walked away with a 16-3 win forcing the run-rule after the 7th inning. The Pilots slip to 18-6 on the season while the Rams improve to 16-7.
"They threw a guy that we couldn't hit and got out to a big lead early and it kind of snowballed from there," said LSUS coach Brent Lavallee. "These are the types of games that hurt while you're in them but in the long run will make you better."
The Pilots threw everything at the Rams including the kitchen sink but it was their day and they pounded out 19 hits. In the game of baseball these type of games will come in a long season and today just happened to be it for the Pilots. All nine starters for Texas Wesleyan had at least one hit and the Designated Hitter Aidan Laurini had a perfect day going 4-for-4 with a walk and five Rams drove in two runs apiece.
Evan Rogers (4-2) picked up the win for the Rams after working six solid innings as the Pilots scattered nine hits and scored just three runs off the tall right-hander who struck out four.
One bright spot in the game for the Pilots offensively was Beaux Guilbeau (SO/Carthage, Texas) going 3-for-3 as he had singles in the 1st, 4th and 5th innings and he scored two of the Pilots three runs.
"The beautiful thing is we get to come back tomorrow and right the ship," said Lavallee as the Pilots will play the Rams again tomorrow afternoon and go for the season series win.
