SHREVEPORT, La. – The LSU Shreveport Pilots claimed their 10th conference tournament championship in program history and their 6th in the Red River Athletic Conference with a 15-13 win over the Jarvis Christian Bulldogs in the title game on Monday night at Pilot Field. The Pilots trailed 12-4 going into the bottom of the 4th inning and capped the comeback with a six-run rally in the bottom of the 8th inning. LSUS improves to 38-19 while Jarvis ends the season at 33-27.

"Our guys did not stop and when they were down they got back up," said LSUS coach Brent Lavallee who claims his first title as the skipper. "We knew that we had all nine innings to use. Our guys believed in themselves and our offense went out and scored nearly every inning."

The game winning rally began with a single by Ryan Pouwells (JR/Surrey, British Columbia) and then a walk to Beaux Guilbeau (SO/Carthage, Texas). Layton Laird (JR/Baton Rouge, Louisiana)'s RBI-single chased the new reliever out of the game and then Hammock welcomed the new arm with a base hit to left. After a sac-fly by Brenden Meade (JR/Shreveport, Louisiana) scored another run to make it 13-11, one of the more bizarre plays happened where eventually Hammock was called out for interfering with the second baseman who was trying to make a play on the ball.

Initially the umpire ruled a double-play to end the inning but after a conference with the umpiring crew they decided that just one out should have been recorded so they called Jarvis back to the field with two outs with runners at second and third for the Pilots.

Frankie Rodriguez then brought home a run with a single to bring the Pilots within one and then Caleb Lasseigne (SO/Breaux Bridge, Louisiana) tied the game with a single. Next Rosario doubled home one and the next run scored on a wild pitch to give the Pilots a 2-run lead heading to the 9th.

Pat Day (JR/Tyler, Texas) earned his third save of the season and there was no stopping the southpaw as he struck out three of the four batters that he faced to secure the Pilots 6th RRAC Championship!

The comeback almost looked like it would not be possible as if Cinderella would escape the ball with glass slipper because Jarvis scored 4 in the 3rd and eight 4th inning while the Pilots went through three different pitchers in the 4th. "When they put up that big inning that was self-inflicted, we answered and kept chipping away with the "next man up mentality" and got back in the game," Lavallee said.

The bullpen though stepped up the rest of the way and only allowed one more run. Hunter Cunningham (FR/Mission, British Columbia) (2-1) dealt for three innings scattering four hits and allowing just the one run with a walk and a strike out to lead way for Day to display his magic in the 9th.

"Our entire bullpen did a great job for us and I couldn't be happier," said Lavallee.

The Pilots chipped away with two runs in the bottom of the 4th and then one in the 5th. The Pilots answered Jarvis' 7th inning run with two after the stretch to set themselves up to complete the comeback in the next at-bat.

LSUS will wait and see where the NAIA sends them in the Opening Round. The announcement of the brackets will be on May 11. This year's hosts include: Bellevue (Neb.), Faulkner (Ala.), Georgia Gwinnett, Kingsport (Tenn.) Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC), Northwestern Ohio, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Wesleyan, Tabor (Kan.), and William Carey (Miss.).
