LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The LSU Shreveport Pilots saw their season come to an end in a crushing loss 20-2 against the 14th-ranked Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies on Tuesday in the NAIA Baseball National Championship in the Lawrenceville Bracket at the Grizzly Baseball Complex. The Pilots end their season with a 39-21 overall record.

"We just ran out of gas," said LSUS coach Brent Lavallee whose club looked to have a good game in the making as the first three hitters reached to give the Pilots an early 1-0 lead. But then the Pilots took the field and the Grizzlies made sure to make that run history. And they did as it seemed that no matter what the Pilots threw, they hit. And hit it hard.

Georgia Gwinnett (39-20) had five starters that had at least three hits including Jean Figueroa who was 5-for-6 with three runs batted in. They total 24 hits on a night where they scored 20 runs.

"We had a few plays that we would like to have back but their offense was just too much to contain tonight," Lavallee said. "Hats off to Georgia Gwinnett, they hit the ball very well and their confidence as an offense is enviable."

While tonight was not the Pilots' night, they cannot let this game define their season. This season had some pretty high moments including winning the school's 10th conference tournament title at Pilot Field just over a week ago after trailing 12-4 going into the bottom of the 4th inning.

They produced four All-RRAC First Teamers, two Second Teamers and three on the Gold Glove Team. Also Coach Lavallee was named the RRAC Coach of the Year. The Pilots also dominated the All-Tournament Team for the RRAC with six including taking the MVP and Gold Glove Awards with Kevin Rosario (SR/Hollywood, Florida).

"We had a year that we can be proud of," said Lavallee. "I am very lucky to be around this group of players."

And who could forget the seniors who played their final game tonight: Trey Robledo (SR/Fredricksburg, Texas), Kevin Rosario, Francisco Rodriguez (SR/Loiza, Puerto Rico) and Vaughn Shapen (SR/Shreveport, Louisiana). "Our seniors will be missed dearly but they have left this program better than they found it and for that I am grateful to them," ended Coach Lavallee who completed his first season as Head Coach.
