HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The LSU Shreveport men's soccer team played tough for 90 minutes but came up short in a 2-0 contest against the no. 2 William Carey Crusaders at Crusader Field.

NOTES
The Pilots slip to 4-1 on the season while no. 2 William Carey remains unbeaten at 5-0.

FROM THE COACH
"This was a tough loss tonight," said LSUS Head Coach Phillip Bohn. "I thought overall the boys played hard and did a lot well. Unfortunately good teams take advantage of mistakes and make you pay. A couple issues in our defensive third cost us two goals against. We played right with them and had a good amount of the ball. Moving forward we need to be willing to take good shots we create rather than search for an even better shot which many times ends up getting you no shot. It was good to see how we stack up against a top NAIA team. Now we learn from this one and continue to work to get better."

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Midfielder Carlos Martinez (JR/Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) led the squad with four shots with two finding its way on goal.

Murray Cockburn (JR/Edinburgh, Scotland) and Jevanni Hinkson (FR/Trinidad, Trinidad & Tobago) each had a pair of shots but none on goal.

Daniel Meza (JR/Fontana, California) had the only other shot for the Pilots.

Yoran Van Houdt (FR/Mol, Belguim) played all 90 minutes in goal. Although he gave up his first two goals of the season, he managed five saves on the evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• William Carey worked the ball down the side of the field as Michael Conejero assisted Joaquin Ruiz Cabello for the first goal of the game during the 42nd minute just before the break.

• It wasn't until the 75th minute when the Crusaders found the back of the net again on a similar play as the first half but this time Ben Whalley scored while Ethan Loftin was credited with the assist.

• The Pilots created some chances of their own but were unable to put the ball in the back of the net.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Crusaders led in shot totals 15-9 and in shots on goal 7-2.

• Van Houdt (LSUS) made five saves while Grant Adam (WCU) had two saves in 90 minutes of action.

• The Pilots edged the Crusaders in corner kicks 4-3 while the foul count was even at six a piece.
