BOSSIER CITY, La. - The LSU Shreveport men's and women's basketball team took an hour out of their busy schedules to visit Meadowview Elementary School in Bossier City, Louisiana. Principal, Dr. Shelly Barrett welcomed the Pilots and Lady Pilots to their campus on Wednesday afternoon to visit with third, fourth and fifth graders. The Pilots and Lady Pilots led an assembly in the gymnasium for the Meadowview Roadrunners to encourage them to always strive to be their best. A special challenge was issued for the elementary students to focus these next couple of months in preparation for their iLeap test the first two weeks in April.
The assembly began with a shooting contest. The Pilots and Lady Pilots in attendance were split up into three teams for the contest and each grade cheered on their respective team to win. The prize for the grade who selected the winning team would receive free tickets to this weekend's LSUS basketball games. As the contest finished, it was difficult to tell who actually won. It was also great to see so many smiling faces and it wasn't apparent which group was having the most fun, the Pilots and Lady Pilots or the Roadrunners of Meadowview Elementary. Two things for sure……It was LOUD and FUN!!!
The 200+ students were excited to find out they were all winners for the day and received free tickets to the LSU Shreveport Basketball games this weekend.
LSUS Athletic Director Chad McDowell then spoke to the students about the Champions of Character Five Core Values of Respect, Responsibility, Servant Leadership, Sportsmanship, and Integrity. Following an explanation of each of the Five Core Values, Coach McDowell asked the students what they learned today and the first student he picked talked about what he had learned in his science class today!
The rest of the students that were chosen to tell what they had learned received an LSUS Basketball Media Guide and an LSUS cup for their good listening skills. At the conclusion of the assembly each student walked by the line of the Lady Pilots and Pilots basketball players and received tickets to this weekend's game as well as an autographed photo of one of the LSUS players.
Each class was also given a photo collage of the basketball teams to hang in their classroom. The LSUS basketball players plan to return to Meadowview and visit the classrooms before the big test this spring. Hopefully, the students will put their tickets to use this weekend and come watch the Pilots and Lady Pilots play on Friday and/or Saturday night.
