Head Coach | 1st Season
Alma Mater: Southern Utah University

Coach Curtis Loyd was named the third head coach of the women's basketball program, since its reinstatement in 2003, on July 27, 2016. He brings a wealth of coaching knowledge to the floor with 19 years of experience as an assistant coach at the NCAA Division I level.

The 2016-17 Pilots will have a banner hanging from the rafters at The Dock to remember their first-ever conference tournament championship this season as they claimed the RRAC's post-season banner under Loyd's leadership. While it will not be mentioned on the championship flag, there was much more to recall than just that trophy this season. Even though so much happened that was memorable, here is a list of a few that stand out…

• Who could forget the 14-game winning streak that had them in the top spot in the RRAC after an unbeaten first round of games.

• Or about placing THREE on the All-RRAC First Team (Kourtney Pennywell, Quiana Tucker (SR/Stone Mountain, Georgia) and Randle) which is unheard of. And Johnesha Major (SR/DeSoto, Texas) was named to the Honorable Mention Team.

• Coach Loyd was named Coach of the Year in the RRAC in just his first season while Pennywell was named the league's Player of the Year for the second time in her LSUS career.

• being ranked in the top 12 in the nation in four rebounding categories.

Loyd came to Shreveport from Indiana University where he has served as the Assistant Coach under Head Coach Teri Moren the past two seasons. Last season he helped the Hoosiers to an overall record of 21-12 which was the school's best record since the 2008-2009 season.

Over the years Coach Loyd has developed a reputation of being an outstanding recruiter and an extremely hard worker. He says that his team will be aggressive and play with passion and will be competitive but all that will come after successful trips on the recruiting trail. "It is my goal to recruit good people and that will make good things not only happen on the court but in the classroom as well," said Loyd who will instill a "Team First" attitude to his club. "I don't just want a great team but a great program."

Prior to his stop in Bloomington, Indiana, Coach Loyd was the Associate Head Coach in his two previous stops: University of Minnesota (2010-2014) and at the University of Akron (2009-2010). He was the Assistant Coach at his first three stops in his career: University of Virginia (2004-2009), University of Arizona (1999-2004), and Colorado State University (1996-1999).

His playing career consisted of two seasons at Northeastern Junior College (1989-1991) and Southern Utah University (1991-1993) in addition to playing professionally in Switzerland from 1994-1996. In 1993-1994 Loyd was the Graduate Assistant and Team Manager at his alma mater at Southern Utah as he worked for both the basketball and track teams and later organized the first Slam and Jam 3 on 3 Tournament in addition to working with the teams marketing program assisting with promotions and advertisements.
