No. 2 Pilots Down the Drovers of Science and Arts
Dallas, Texas--- The Pilots baseball team continues to roll as they collect their 12th straight win Wednesday afternoon, 12-6, against the Drovers of USAO. With the win the Pilots continue to climb as they improve to a 31-6 record.
The Drovers scored early in the first as they put up an early run off of a home run. The Pilots were quick to respond in the bottom of the inning as Trevor Burkhart used a lead off single to get on moments before Ryan Major used a stand up double to bring him in. Major scored the second run of the inning as Miguel Vega used a double to bring him in. The Pilots and Drovers went head to head in the second and through to the top of the third with neither team adding a run.
The Pilots broke the game open in the bottom of the third as they compiled five runs in the inning. Three back to back singles by AJ Fritz, Carlos Pineyro, and Vantrel Reed scored one for the Pilots and put two on the base path. Kade Shannon doubled to left to bring Pineyro home giving the Pilots another run. Christian Webb added the third and fourth runs of the inning as he sent the first homerun of the day out for the Pilots lifting them to 6-1. Burkhart extended the inning with a triple out to center before Major singled to score him once again. The Pilots ended the inning up 7-1. The Drovers weren't done yet however and used a three run inning to try and close the gap 7-4. The Pilots took one run back in the bottom of the fourth on a Shannon sacrifice fly to score Fritz, going up 8-4.
The Pilots continued to roll in the bottom of the inning as they connected for three more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Burkhart and Major opened the inning each with a single before committing a double steal to put two runners in scoring position. Miguel Vega brought the two runners in as he sent the second home run of the day over the fence for the Pilots. The Pilots ended the fifth inning up 11-4. The Drovers added their final two runs in the top of the sixth before the Pilots shut them down for the afternoon. Major ended the scoring for the day in the bottom of the seventh for the Pilots as he hit his first home run of the season, and third one of the game for the Pilots, over the centerfield fence giving the Pilots the 12-6 win.
The Pilots pitching staff combined for a total of nine strikeouts with Bobby Vath leading the way. Vath pitched five full innings for the Pilots getting four strikeouts and allowing just four hits. Gage Bihm and Ryan Isler each had two strikeouts while Draven Zeigler accounted for one. The Pilot pitching had six hits and six runs on the day with four of them being earned.
Player of the Game
Ryan Major was selected as Player of the Game for his outstanding performance against the Drovers. Major went 5 for 5 on the day as he accumulated three runs and three RBIs. He was a triple short of hitting for the cycle as he scattered three singles, a double, and a home run. He also added two stolen bases to his already national leading tally.
The Pilots will be back in action Friday April 14th as they take on the Bulldogs of Jarvis Christian in an RRAC weekend series. First pitch is set for 6:00pm CT from Pilot Field in Shreveport, Louisiana.
