No. 2 Pilots Shutout Jarvis Christian in Friday Night Face Off
Shreveport, Louisiana--- The Pilots baseball team continued their winning ways Friday evening as they shut out the Bulldogs of Jarvis Christian, 6-0 in the opening game of the weekend series. With the win the Pilots move to a season record of 32-6 and a conference record of 19-3.
The Pilots scored their first run in the bottom of the first as Trevor Burkhart turned a single into a double due to an error. Ryan Major brought Burkhart in to open the day's scoring with a double there after. The Pilots and Bulldogs sat quiet through the second and third before the Pilots again added a run in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of Zyon Avery. Avery hit a single to left field driving in the awaiting Carlos Pineyro to bring the score to 2-0. Major rose up for the Pilots once more in the game as he laid down what was supposed to be a sacrifice bunt. The perfect bunt and a misfire from the catcher allowed Major to not only reach, but to score Josh Gibson, Burkhart, and himself to lift the Pilots to 5-0. The Pilots scored their final run of the game in the 7th as Major once again brought Gibson across the dish to close out the game.
The Pilot pitching staff combined for a shutout against the Bulldogs as they drew 10 strikeouts. Sayer Diederich got the start for the Pilots going two and a third innings with just two hits and two strikeouts. Chase Guitreau took over from there striking out six batters and going 4.2 innings. Alex Gonzalez and Ryan Sturgeon closed out the game for the Pilots going an inning each, with Sturgeon picking up the two remaining strikeouts.
Player of the Game
Chase Guitreau was selected as Player of the Game for his stellar performance on the mound. He inherited a 2-0 count and quickly secured two strikeouts to send the Pilots back to the plate. He finished his performance going four more complete innings picking up four more strikeouts and scattering two hits.
The Pilots will be back in action Sunday April 16th as they take on the Bulldogs of Jarvis Christian in a double header to close out their weekend series. First pitch is set for 1:00pm CT from Pilot Field in Shreveport, Louisiana.
