Pilots Split Opening Day with MACU

Shreveport, Louisiana-- In a Sunday doubleheader, the LSU Shreveport Pilots baseball team faced off against the Mid America Christian University (MACU) Evangels, splitting the two games with a score of 1-1. With the two games the Pilots move to an overall record of 1-1.

**Game One: MACU 11, LSU Shreveport 1**

The opening game proved challenging for the Pilots as the MACU Evangels took control early, securing an 11-1 victory. MACU got on the board first, scoring one run in the second inning. They extended their lead with four more runs in the third, establishing a five-run advantage. The Pilots managed to score their lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning. With loaded bases, Cooper Huspen crossed the plate on a hit by pitch from Vantrel Reed.

Despite the Pilots' efforts, the Evangels sealed the game with a strong performance in the eighth inning, adding six runs. With the run rule in effect, the game concluded with an 11-1 victory for MACU. The Evangels effectively kept the Pilots scoreless in the bottom of the eighth.

**Game Two: LSU Shreveport 5, MACU 4**

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Evangels once again took an early lead by scoring three runs in the first inning. The Pilots, determined to make a comeback, started their rally in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs. AJ Fritz singled to right field, bringing in Josh Gibson and advancing Vantrel Reed. Reed then crossed the plate on a dropped fly ball, narrowing the gap to one run.

The Pilots continued their comeback in the fourth inning, adding three more runs to take the lead. Trevor Burkhart's double brought in Jose Sallorin, while Josh Gibson's single brought in Cooper Huspen. Burkhart later scored on a fielder's choice.

The Evangels managed to score their final run in the top of the seventh inning, securing an inside-the-park home run on a challenging call involving a fly ball. The Pilots and Evangels remained scoreless in the final two innings, resulting in a final score of 5-4 in favor of LSU Shreveport.

The doubleheader showcased the resilience of both teams, with each securing a victory in a closely contested series of baseball matchups.
