STERLINGTON, La. -- LSU Shreveport wrapped up play at the Cajun Collision on Saturday with a split on the final day, rolling past Dakota State 11-1 in the opener before falling 3-1 to Missouri Baptist in the nightcap. The Pilots move to 8-2 overall on the season.
Game 1 – LSUS 11, Dakota State 1
The Pilots used a decisive middle innings surge to take control of the opener.
After Dakota State scored once in the top of the third, LSUS responded and then broke the game open with a seven-run fourth inning. The Pilots finished with 11 runs on eight hits in the contest.
Aiden McGinnis paced the offense with a 2-for-3 performance and two RBI. Carlos Vega added two hits and two RBI, while Landon Hunt also drove in a pair as LSUS capitalized on timely hitting and extra-base production.
Jacob Gallegos earned the win, tossing four innings and allowing just one run on three hits while striking out two. Camden Stephens, Rhys Francis, Jack Savitch, and Luke Shelton combined to close out the final three innings and secure the 11-1 victory.
Game 2 – Missouri Baptist 3, LSUS 1
In the nightcap, Missouri Baptist struck early and relied on steady pitching to claim the 3-1 decision.
The Spartans scored a run in the first inning and added single runs in the second and fourth. LSU Shreveport was limited to two hits in the game with Landon Hunt and Spencer Sullivan each recording a hit. Hunt accounted for the Pilots' lone run.
Missouri Baptist starter Teague Robertson tossed seven innings, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out seven.
For LSUS, Virot Siharath, Cade Robin, and Joan Roman combined for seven innings on the mound. Robin and Roman each struck out four in relief, but the Pilots were unable to generate late offense.
LSU Shreveport will return home to Pilot Field on Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. as the Pilots welcome Arizona Christian University.
