Hunt Hits for Cycle as No. 1 LSUS Sweeps Jarvis Christian
SHREVEPORT, La. – Landon Hunt etched his name into the LSU Shreveport record books on Friday, becoming just the second player in program history to hit for the cycle as the No. 1 Pilots completed a Red River Athletic Conference sweep of Jarvis Christian with 15-4 and 25-1 victories at Pilot Field.
With the wins, LSUS improved to 21-3 overall and 9-0 in RRAC play, while Jarvis Christian dropped to 0-16 overall and 0-9 in conference. The Pilots controlled the series throughout the weekend, outscoring the Bulldogs 70-6 across the three games.
Hunt delivered the historic performance in the series finale, finishing 5-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, and a home run to complete the cycle and lead a 25-run offensive outburst.
Game 1 – LSUS 15, Jarvis Christian 4
The Pilots opened the doubleheader with a steady offensive effort, scoring 15 runs on 15 hits to secure the win. LSUS jumped ahead early with two runs in the first inning and four more in the second, setting the tone for the afternoon.
Nathaniel De La Cruz led the Pilots at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, while Carlos Vega drove in three runs as part of a multi-hit performance. Makana Olaso added two hits and two RBIs, helping the Pilots build a comfortable lead.
On the mound, Brock Lucas earned the victory with a strong outing, tossing seven innings while allowing three hits and four runs (none earned) while striking out nine batters.
Game 2 – LSUS 25, Jarvis Christian 1
LSUS carried that momentum into the series finale, collecting 25 runs on 18 hits in the seven-inning victory.
The Pilots struck early with three runs in the first inning before breaking the game open with a 14-run fourth inning.
Hunt's cycle headlined the offensive surge, but several Pilots contributed throughout the lineup. Rodrigo Bravo finished 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, while Sebastian Harden recorded two hits and scored three runs. Carlos Vega added two hits and two RBIs, and Nathaniel De La Cruz continued his productive day with another multi-hit effort that included a double.
On the mound, Calvin Shepherd earned the win after tossing four innings while allowing one run and striking out six. The Pilots' bullpen closed the game as Camden Stephens, Rhys Francis, and Joan Roman combined to cover the final three innings and secure the sweep.
LSU Shreveport returns to action on Tuesday, March 10, when the Pilots welcome John Melvin University to Pilot Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m..
