LSU Shreveport Baseball Remains No. 1 in Latest NAIA Coaches’ Poll
SHREVEPORT, La. – LSU Shreveport Baseball continues to hold its place atop the national rankings, remaining No. 1 in the second regular-season edition of the NAIA Baseball Coaches' Top 25 Poll.
The Pilots, who opened the regular season ranked No. 1 in the March 4 poll with 420 points, strengthened their hold on the top spot in the latest rankings released on March 18, totaling 445 points.
LSUS enters the week with a 26-3 overall record and a perfect 12-0 mark in Red River Athletic Conference play. The Pilots most recently dominated Texas Wesleyan in a 20-2 road victory on Tuesday afternoon.
Through 29 games, LSU Shreveport has been one of the most potent offensive teams in the nation, scoring 341 runs while posting a .376 batting average, .494 on-base percentage, and .625 slugging percentage, along with 34 home runs.
Carlos Sanchez has led the offensive charge, hitting .469 with a 1.027 slugging percentage. He has compiled 45 runs, 53 hits, 12 doubles, 12 triples, nine home runs, and 59 RBIs, while also swiping 24 bases.
On the mound, the Pilots have been equally impressive, posting a 2.31 team ERA with 242 strikeouts. Brock Lucas and David Hankins have paced the staff, as Lucas owns a 1.32 ERA with five wins, 57 strikeouts, a 12.51 K/9, and a .68 WHIP across 41 innings. Hankins follows with a 1.50 ERA, seven wins, 36 strikeouts, a 9.00 K/9, and a .97 WHIP in 36 innings pitched.
LSUS will return to Pilot Field on Friday, March 20, to open a weekend series against Our Lady of the Lake. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. as the Pilots look to continue their dominant run as the nation's top-ranked team.
