LSU Shreveport Hires Austin Orth as Assistant Baseball Coach/Game Administrator

SHREVEPORT, La. – The LSU Shreveport Athletic Department announced the hiring of Austin Orth as the new assistant baseball coach for the Pilot baseball program. Orth will also serve as the primary game administrator for all athletic events.

The veteran assistant comes to Shreveport after spending the last three seasons at Mid-America Christian University, where he oversaw the program's hitting and offense. Under his guidance, the Evangels put together the most prolific offensive stretch in program history, breaking multiple school records and emerging as one of the top programs in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

"We are extremely thrilled to welcome Austin and his family to our program. There is no doubt in our minds that he is the right hire for this position—and, more importantly, the right fit for our program and department," said LSU Shreveport Baseball Head Coach Brad Neffendorf. "Austin brings a wealth of experience and a high level of success at the NAIA level and beyond, and the players in this program will benefit tremendously from it. Our program and department will continue to move forward and grow through the impact that Austin will have."

While at MACU, Orth coached one NAIA All-American, two SAC Newcomers of the Year, 10 first-team All-SAC hitters, nine second-team selections, and two SAC Gold Glove catchers. During his three years, the Evangels set single-season school records for runs, hits, home runs, RBIs, total bases, walks, stolen bases, batting average, OBP, slugging, and OPS.

His time with the program also featured three straight 40-win seasons, twice breaking the school record for single-season victories. The Evangels captured the 2024 SAC regular-season title, won conference tournament championships in 2024 and 2026, made three consecutive NAIA Opening Round appearances, and advanced to the NAIA World Series in 2026.

"We are excited to welcome Austin to the LSUS family," said Director of Athletics Lucas Morgan. "Austin has a proven track record as a successful baseball coach, but I believe his leadership will also be valuable to our Administrative Team. Our goal is to put on an elite game experience for our student-athletes and spectators and I believe Austin can help enhance the quality of that experience for everyone involved."

Prior to his stint at MACU, Orth was an assistant coach at Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School for the 2022–23 season, helping the team to a runner-up district finish while setting school records in stolen bases, OBP, and hit-by-pitches.

The new Pilots assistant also spent five seasons on the staff at Oklahoma Christian University from 2017 to 2022. There, he developed nine all-conference hitters across the Heartland and Lone Star Conferences, five NCAA All-Region selections, and two conference Freshmen of the Year.

"My family and I are incredibly grateful and excited for the opportunity to join Brad Neffendorf and his staff at LSU Shreveport," Orth said. "I can't wait to meet and work with an incredible group of players to continue to build on the tradition of Pilot Baseball."

He now joins an LSUS program coming off a 43-14 campaign in 2026 that included winning the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament championship before their season ended in the championship game of the NAIA Opening Round.
