Pilots Steer Past Mustangs for Thrilling 99-94 Homecoming Victory
Shreveport, La. – The LSUS Pilots delivered a thrilling Homecoming victory at The Dock on Thursday night, outlasting the University of the Southwest Mustangs 99-94 in a high-scoring battle.
LSUS (13-9, 10-8 RRAC) was fueled by a dynamic offensive performance, shooting an efficient 60% from the field and a scorching 51.9% from beyond the arc to keep the Mustangs at bay.
Taj Anderson put on a show for the home crowd, pouring in 27 points while dishing out six assists and grabbing four rebounds. Trey Boston matched Anderson's offensive explosion with 27 points of his own, adding three assists and two rebounds.
Davion Coleman filled up the stat sheet, posting 21 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while Tahjae Hill made his presence felt on both ends with 14 points, six boards, five assists, and five steals.
Despite the Pilots' offensive fireworks, the Mustangs refused to back down. Jacob Koontz kept Southwest in the fight with a monster 27-point, 11-rebound double-double, while Rahkiem Petterson added 17 points and eight rebounds. Jayvin Brown contributed 16 points, five assists, and four steals, and James Evans chipped in 12 points and three assists.
Southwest shot an impressive 52.4% from the field but struggled from deep, connecting on just 25% of their three-point attempts. However, they kept themselves in striking distance by knocking down 86.2% from the free-throw line.
LSUS will look to ride this momentum into their next matchup on Saturday, Feb. 1, when they host Paul Quinn College at The Dock. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
