Pilots Cruise Past Steers in Dominant 107-63 Victory at The Dock
SHREVEPORT, La. — Khi Wallace and Hayden Brittingham each recorded double-doubles Thursday night as LSU Shreveport overwhelmed Texas College 107-63 at The Dock, extending the Pilots' conference winning streak to open RRAC play.
Wallace paced all scorers with 26 points and 14 rebounds while adding two blocks, and Brittingham contributed 21 points and 12 boards with two blocks of his own as LSUS improved to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Steers fell to 1-6 on the season and remain winless in RRAC action at 0-2.
The Pilots set the tone early, forcing a turnover on the game's opening possession. Wallace corralled the steal, and Alexzaye Johnson buried a three-pointer just 22 seconds into the contest to give LSUS a lead it would never relinquish. Thaddeus Johnson followed with a triple of his own, and the Pilots raced out to a 12-3 advantage before Texas College could find its footing.
Wallace was a force on both ends of the floor throughout the first half, throwing down a pair of emphatic dunks and capping a dominant stretch with an and-one slam that pushed the lead to 30-16 with just over 10 minutes remaining before the break. A technical foul on Texas College's Tyren Thomas only compounded the Steers' troubles as LSUS carried a 54-37 cushion into halftime.
The second half brought more of the same. The Pilots opened with a 14-2 run, highlighted by a Brittingham dunk off a feed from Emareyon McDonald that extended the margin to 26 and prompted a Texas College timeout. LSUS continued to pound the paint and control the glass, eventually stretching the lead beyond 50 points in the final four minutes.
Thaddeus Johnson matched Brittingham's scoring output with 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while McDonald finished with 18 points and six assists. Alexzaye Johnson orchestrated the offense with nine assists and two steals.
The Pilots dominated the Steers in virtually every statistical category, outrebounding Texas College 56-41 and outscoring them 60-26 in the paint. LSUS also held decisive edges in second-chance points (30-10), points off turnovers (29-16), fast break points (18-6), and bench scoring (34-31).
Jason Roseberry Jr. led Texas College with 18 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks. Kason Smith added 12 points, Wayne Green finished with 11, and Thomas led the Steers on the boards with 10 rebounds.
The Pilots return to action Saturday, December 6th when they host Jarvis Christian University at The Dock for the annual Toy Drive Game. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., and admission is free with a toy donation.
