Pilots Dominate From Tip, Roll Past Southwest 111–63 at The Dock

SHREVEPORT, La. — LSU Shreveport put together a wire-to-wire performance Thursday night at The Dock, overpowering the University of the Southwest 111–63 to move to 6–0 in Red River Athletic Conference play. The Pilots established control early by leaning on a heavy interior presence and efficient ball movement. Hayden Brittingham opened the scoring with a layup before Khi Wallace ignited the crowd with a dunk just over a minute later. LSUS never looked back, outscoring the Mustangs 60–22 in the paint and shooting 54.4% from the field while holding Southwest to a 31.1% shooting clip.

The Pilots broke the game open midway through the first half by using a pressure defense to force turnovers and fuel their transition game. LSUS turned 19 Mustang turnovers into 24 points, effectively preventing Southwest from finding a consistent offensive rhythm. Despite the pressure, Southwest found success from the perimeter, connecting on 10 three-pointers throughout the night. Jayvian Lawson led the Mustangs in scoring with 12 points while adding three rebounds and two assists. EJay Scroggins and Jalen Williams also contributed 11 points each, with Donovan Holcombe providing a strong defensive spark for Southwest with four blocks and three steals to go along with his 10 points.

For LSUS, Devonte Austin sparked a perimeter surge with a three-pointer of his own, while Emareyon McDonald hit multiple shots from deep to stretch the lead. The Pilots also dominated the glass, finishing with a 62–32 rebounding advantage that led to 18 second-chance points. McDonald capped the half with a three-pointer in the final seconds, giving LSUS a 59–37 lead at the break. The second half saw more of the same as Wallace opened with a dunk and McDonald continued a flurry of scoring that pushed the margin beyond 30 points. The Pilots' offense remained balanced, recording 24 assists on 43 made field goals, while the LSUS bench and defensive intensity proved too much for the Mustangs to overcome.

Individual performances anchored the blowout for LSUS, led by McDonald's 31 points. Khi Wallace recorded his eighth consecutive double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Brittingham posted his fourth straight double-double with 12 points and 14 boards. Alexzaye Johnson also finished with a double-double, totaling 11 points and 10 rebounds to go with five assists. Thaddeus Johnson added 13 points and five assists, while freshmen Nico Jones and Matt Trahan made key contributions to the win; Jones provided seven assists to help manage the tempo, while Trahan grabbed five rebounds to help secure the interior.

LSU Shreveport will look to maintain its perfect conference record as they return to The Dock on Dec. 20 to face UNT Dallas, with tip-off set for 3 p.m.
