SHREVEPORT, La. – LSU Shreveport men's soccer broke through for its first victory of the season with a 3-1 win over the University of Mobile on Friday afternoon at The Swamp. The Pilots move to 1-0-5 after opening the year with five consecutive draws, while the Rams fall to 1-4.
Jack Thomas opened the scoring in the 34th minute off an assist from Jacob Botterill. Just seven minutes later, the duo reversed roles as Botterill found the back of the net on a setup from Thomas to give LSUS a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
Mobile cut the deficit in the 56th minute when Salman Nader scored, but the Pilots quickly responded. In the 64th minute, Jamie Zani netted LSUS's third goal of the afternoon with Thomas collecting his second assist of the match to secure the result.
Sondre Liahagen-Kolnes went the full 90 minutes in goal for LSUS and recorded two saves. Mobile's Tanner Boxberger tallied seven saves in the losing effort.
The Pilots will return to action on Tuesday, September 16, when they travel to Siloam Springs, Ark., to face John Brown University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
