SHREVEPORT, La. – No. 11 LSU Shreveport men's soccer locked up its fourth consecutive Red River Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship with a 2-0 victory over Xavier University (La.) on Monday afternoon at The Swamp.
The Pilots (12-0-5, 10-0 RRAC) remained unbeaten in conference play behind second-half goals from Jack Thomas and Joel Trueb, while goalkeeper Sondre Liahagen-Kolnes anchored the clean sheet with four saves. Xavier (9-3-2, 6-2-1 RRAC) was limited to just four shots on goal in the match.
After a scoreless first half, the Pilots broke through in the 67th minute when Thomas connected on a pass from Jaime Zani to give LSUS the lead. The goal not only swung the momentum but also earned Thomas the program's single-season points record with 42.
Trueb sealed the win in the 85th minute, capitalizing on a defensive miscue to put the match out of reach for the Gold Rush.
Liahagen-Kolnes went the distance for LSUS, earning the shutout. Xavier's Breno Zanolla also played the full 90 minutes, allowing two goals and making one save.
The Pilots will close out the regular season on Saturday in Pineville, Louisiana, when they take on Louisiana Christian University. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
