LSU Shreveport Falls to Xavier in Double Overtime Thriller in RRAC Championship

TEXARKANA, Texas — In a battle that stretched deep into extra time, the LSU Shreveport men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Xavier University of Louisiana in double overtime on Wednesday evening at Judy Kelley Morgan Field in the Red River Athletic Conference Championship match.

After 109 minutes of scoreless play, Xavier's Artur Rubim broke through with the decisive goal at the 109:48 mark, assisted by Antonio Merola, sealing the match and the RRAC tournament title for the Gold Rush.

LSUS goalkeeper Sondre Liahagen-Kolnes anchored the defense throughout regulation and both overtime periods, recording three saves while playing the full 109 minutes. On the opposite end, XULA's Breno Zanolla turned away four LSUS shots to preserve the clean sheet.

Despite the narrow defeat, the RRAC Regular Season Champion Pilots put together a standout campaign and will now await the announcement of at-large bids for the 2025 NAIA Men's Soccer National Tournament.
