LSU Shreveport Tabbed No. 1 in RRAC Women’s Basketball Preseason Poll

SHREVEPORT, La. – LSU Shreveport has been selected as the frontrunner once again, earning the top spot in the 2025-26 Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Women's Basketball Preseason Poll. The Pilots received seven of nine first-place votes, with Xavier University of Louisiana claiming two and finishing second in the rankings. LSU Alexandria followed in third place.

The No. 22-ranked Pilots enter the new season as the team to beat after dropping just one conference game over the past two seasons, including postseason play. Under the direction of Head Coach Tim Hays, LSUS returns two of its top scorers — Selma Markisic (12.3 points per game) and Paula Gonzalez (11.4 ppg) — who were instrumental in the Pilots' back-to-back conference championship runs.

LSUS also bolsters its roster with several key additions, including Toni Coleman (Clackamas Community College), Katie Ambrose (Ave Maria University, Fla.), and Ally Fleenor (University of Virginia-Wise).

The Pilots opened their 2025-26 campaign on a strong note with a 68-47 victory over Texas Wesleyan University on Sunday afternoon inside The Dock, improving to 1-0 on the season. LSUS was also ranked No. 22 in the NAIA Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Top 25 Poll, solidifying its status as one of the top programs in the nation.

The Pilots will look to keep their momentum going when they hit the road to face Wiley College on Wednesday, October 29, with tip-off set for 5 p.m.
