Markisic, Gonzalez Shine as Pilots Cruise Past Wiley, 94-69

MARSHALL, Texas – The LSU Shreveport women's basketball team powered to a dominant 94-69 road victory over Wiley University on Tuesday night, improving to 2-0 on the season behind a balanced and energetic performance.

Selma Markisic led the way for the Pilots with 27 points, five rebounds, four steals, and two assists, fueling LSUS's high-paced offense from start to finish. Paula Gonzalez added a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds while also collecting four steals and an assist.

Toni Coleman filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, six steals, five rebounds, and four assists, while Ally Fleenor contributed all-around production with 11 points, six rebounds, six assists, and four steals.

As a team, LSUS shot 44.7 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from three-point range, showcasing their offensive efficiency on the road. The Pilots also converted 61.3 percent from the free throw line.

Defensively, LSUS was relentless, forcing Wiley into mistakes and converting them into points. The Pilots outscored the Wildcats 31-5 in points off turnovers and dominated the paint with a 46-26 advantage. LSUS also edged Wiley on the glass, 51-47, and extended its largest lead to 30 points midway through the fourth quarter.

Wiley was led by Brandy Jones with 24 points, four rebounds, and one assist. Kelechi Dike chipped in 11 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks, while Jessica Nerestant added nine points and eight rebounds. The Wildcats shot 32.9 percent from the field, 29.3 percent from deep, and 54.5 percent from the stripe.

The Pilots will return to action on Friday, Nov. 7, as they travel to New Orleans, Louisiana, to face Southern University New Orleans. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
