SHREVEPORT, La. – The LSU Shreveport women's basketball team earned a 68-48 victory over Jarvis Christian University on Saturday afternoon at The Dock. The Pilots moved to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in Red River Athletic Conference play.
Selma Markisic led LSU Shreveport with 20 points, seven steals, four rebounds, and two assists. Alyssa Christophe finished with 11 points and two rebounds. Ally Fleenor and Amandine L'Etang each grabbed eight rebounds. L'Etang also recorded five assists and three blocks.
Jarvis Christian took an early 3-0 lead on Carmela Hayden's three-pointer, but Fleenor answered with a layup to make it 3-2. The teams traded leads early in the game. Markisic gave LSU Shreveport the lead with a steal and layup at 11-9. Christophe hit a three-pointer at the 2:43 mark, and Markisic closed the opening quarter with a layup and free throw to put LSUS ahead 20-12.
The Pilots extended their lead in the second quarter. Markisic connected on a three-pointer at the 8:23 mark to make it 23-13. Christophe hit another three-pointer at the 3:37 mark to extend the lead to 32-17. Sami Slusarek hit back-to-back three-pointers in the final minute, giving the Pilots a 40-21 halftime lead.
LSU Shreveport maintained their advantage in the third quarter. Markisic recorded a steal and layup at the 3:25 mark to push the lead to 52-28. The Pilots' reserves played significant minutes in the fourth quarter, but Markisic reached 20 points with a layup at the 6:15 mark, and LSU Shreveport secured the victory.
Jarvis Christian (1-7, 0-3 RRAC) was led by Carmela Hayden with 18 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Shamya Champ, Yvonne Forman, and Corina Talavera each had eight rebounds. Sidney Minor recorded six rebounds and Jacy Reese had four assists.
LSU Shreveport will travel to Alexandria, Louisiana on Thursday, December 11 to face LSU Alexandria at 5:30 p.m.
