Pilots Force 29 Turnovers in 76-60 Victory over LSUA

ALEXANDRIA, LA. -- LSU Shreveport turned defensive pressure into easy offense Thursday night, forcing 29 turnovers and converting them into 27 points in a 76-60 victory that improved the Pilots to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in Red River Athletic Conference play.

The Generals committed more turnovers (29) than they made field goals (21), and LSU Alexandria fell to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in conference action. LSU Shreveport's suffocating defense held LSU Alexandria to just eight points off turnovers while the Pilots committed only 16 giveaways.

Paula Gonzalez Herrero led the Pilots with 19 points, shooting 8-of-15 from the field with two rebounds and one steal. Selma Markisic contributed 13 points, five assists, and four rebounds, going 4-of-10 from the field and 2-of-4 from three-point range. Toni Coleman recorded 12 points, six rebounds, four assists, and seven steals, while Ally Fleenor and Sami Slusarek each added 11 points.

LSU Shreveport outshot LSU Alexandria 48.5% to 38.2% from the field, though the Generals shot better from three-point range (36.0% to 31.3%). The Pilots' defense was the story of the game, forcing LSU Alexandria into constant mistakes while taking care of the basketball themselves.

The Pilots led throughout most of the game, taking a 24-19 first-quarter lead and extending it to 38-29 at halftime. LSU Shreveport dominated the third quarter 24-15 to pull away for good, building a 19-point lead in the fourth quarter. LSU Alexandria's lone lead came at 8-0 early in the game.

Sydney Person led LSU Alexandria with 13 points and six rebounds. Justice Young added 10 points and nine rebounds. Kelly Norris finished with seven assists but shot just 1-of-9 from the field for three points.

LSU Shreveport outscored LSU Alexandria 40-18 in the paint and held the Generals to 64.3% shooting from the free-throw line. The Pilots travel to Louisiana Christian University on Saturday, December 13 at 1 p.m.
