SHREVEPORT, La. — LSU Shreveport women's basketball never trailed in a 73-32 victory over Louisiana Christian University on Thursday night at The Dock.
The Pilots improved to 18-2 overall and 14-0 in the Red River Athletic Conference, while the Wildcats dropped to 2-18 and 1-13 in league play.
Selma Markisic led the way with a game-high 23 points to go along with five steals and three assists, pacing a balanced LSU Shreveport attack. Toni Coleman followed with 18 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while also recording eight steals to tie the LSUS single-game record set by Erynn Williams last season.
Sami Slusarek added a strong all-around effort with seven points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Katie Ambrose chipped in five rebounds and four assists, Ally Fleenor contributed five points and six rebounds, and Celina Vilcinskas grabbed seven rebounds. Amandine L'Etang made her presence felt in the paint with nine rebounds, three steals, and three blocks.
Louisiana Christian was led by Kylei LeBlanc, who finished with eight points, seven rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Jakiya Thompson scored six points, while Carlea Owens tallied five points and six rebounds. Kateria Gooden rounded out the Wildcats' top contributors with five points, four rebounds, and four steals.
LSU Shreveport set the tone early, racing out to a 19-5 lead after the first quarter and holding Louisiana Christian to just 13 points in the first half. The Pilots' defensive pressure fueled the momentum, forcing 31 turnovers and converting them into 32 points. LSUS also controlled the glass with a 47-32 rebounding advantage and dominated the paint and fast break, outscoring the Wildcats 32-14 in the paint and 30-8 in transition.
The Pilots continued to build their lead throughout the second half, pushing the margin to as many as 41 points before closing out the convincing victory.
LSUS shot 43.3 percent from the field and knocked down 10 three-pointers, while holding Louisiana Christian to 19.2 percent shooting for the game.
LSU Shreveport will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 31, as the Pilots host LSU Alexandria at The Dock. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
