LSU Shreveport Controls Tempo in 78–54 Victory Over LSU Alexandria
SHREVEPORT, La. -- LSU Shreveport women's basketball set the tone from the opening tip on Saturday afternoon, using steady offense and stifling defense to earn a 78–54 win over LSU Alexandria at The Dock.
LSU Shreveport improved to 19-2 overall and 15-0 in Red River Athletic Conference play, while LSU Alexandria fell to 9-12 on the season and 8-8 in conference action.
The Pilots jumped out early behind aggressive on-ball defense and efficient scoring, building a 19-12 lead after the first quarter. LSU Shreveport continued to apply pressure in the second period, forcing turnovers and converting them into points to take a 39-25 advantage into halftime.
Selma Markisic led all scorers with 23 points, adding three rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Toni Coleman delivered a strong all-around performance with 15 points, five steals, four assists, and three rebounds. Sami Slusarek finished with 12 points, four rebounds, four steals, and three assists, while Katie Ambrose added 12 points, five rebounds, and three steals.
LSU Alexandria looked to respond early in the third quarter, but the Pilots answered with timely baskets and continued defensive pressure. LSU Shreveport extended the lead throughout the frame and carried a 58-40 cushion into the final quarter.
The Pilots maintained control in the fourth, stretching the margin to as many as 24 points while limiting LSU Alexandria's second-chance opportunities. LSU Shreveport finished with a 29-5 edge in points off turnovers and outscored the Generals 34-14 in the paint.
Sydney Person paced LSU Alexandria with 15 points, seven rebounds, and two assists, while Princis Goff followed with 11 points, three rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
LSU Shreveport will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 5, as they travel to face UNT Dallas. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
