Markisic, Coleman Claim Both RRAC Weekly Honors

SHREVEPORT, La. – LSU Shreveport women's basketball took home both Red River Athletic Conference weekly awards for the dates of Jan. 26–Feb. 1, as Selma Markisic was selected Offensive Player of the Week and Toni Coleman earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Graduate guard Selma Markisic delivered another big week for the Pilots, averaging 25.5 points per game as LSU Shreveport extended its winning streak with two conference victories. Markisic shot 51.4 percent from the floor and connected on 45 percent of her three-point attempts, while adding efficient production at the free-throw line.

She led all scorers with 28 points in the Pilots' 73-32 victory over Louisiana Christian, while also contributing six blocks and three assists. Markisic followed that performance with 23 points in a 78-54 win over LSU Alexandria. On the season, she has totaled 418 points and is averaging 19.9 points per game, ranking first in the RRAC in both field goals made (114) and three-pointers (48). The honor marks her fifth Offensive Player of the Week award this season.

Junior guard Toni Coleman anchored LSU Shreveport on the defensive end, while also providing steady offensive production. Coleman averaged 16.5 points per contest during the week and recorded 13 steals in two games, along with nine rebounds and nine assists.

Coleman scored 18 points in the win over Louisiana Christian and added 15 points against LSU Alexandria. She leads the Pilots with 104 steals and has dished out 87 assists this season. This is Coleman's fifth Defensive Player of the Week selection, to go along with one Offensive Player of the Week honor.

As a team, LSU Shreveport Pilots continues to set the standard nationally. The Pilots are 19-2 overall and remain unbeaten at 15-0 in Red River Athletic Conference play. LSU Shreveport leads the NAIA in total points (1,553) and steals per game (16.0), while averaging 74.0 points per game and shooting 43.5 percent from the field. The Pilots also hold the nation's longest active winning streak at 15 games.

LSU Shreveport will be back in action on Feb. 5, when the Pilots travel to face UNT Dallas Trailblazers. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
