Pilots Clamp Down Defensively in 49-38 Road Win Over Texas College
TYLER, Texas --Behind a strong defensive effort and a double-double from Ally Fleenor, LSU Shreveport women's basketball earned a 49-38 road victory over Texas College.
With the victory, LSU Shreveport moves to 22-2 overall and 18-0 in RRAC play.
In a game where offense was at a premium, the Pilots relied on rebounding, defensive pressure, and timely free throws to secure the win. LSUS forced 18 turnovers and turned them into 13 points while holding Texas College to just 26.5 percent shooting from the field.
Ally Fleenor led the way with a double-double, finishing with 18 points and 11 rebounds while adding three assists. Selma Markisic and Toni Coleman each chipped in 10 points and four steals. Coleman added four rebounds, and Markisic recorded four assists.
Texas College was led by Rakia Lee with 14 points, three rebounds, and two steals. Taryanna McNary added nine points and seven rebounds for the Steers.
LSUS built a 13-9 lead after the first quarter behind early baskets from Fleenor and Markisic. The second quarter remained tight, featuring four ties and two lead changes. Texas College briefly took a one-point advantage late in the half, but a free throw from Katie Ambrose evened the score at 20-20 heading into the break.
The Pilots created separation in the third quarter. Coleman converted a steal into a layup, and Fleenor capitalized at the free-throw line during a key stretch as LSUS outscored the Steers 13-4 over the final minutes of the period to take a 33-24 lead into the fourth.
Texas College cut the deficit to eight with just over two minutes remaining, but LSUS responded with a mid-range jumper from Ambrose, a late layup from Fleenor, and a free throw from Coleman to close out the 11-point victory.
LSUS finished 16-of-56 (28.6%) from the field and 14-of-21 (66.7%) at the free-throw line, while limiting Texas College to 13-of-49 (26.5%) shooting. The Pilots also held a 22-6 advantage in points in the paint and edged the Steers 32-28 on the boards.
The Pilots return home on Feb. 12 to host North American University for Homecoming 2026. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
