LSUS Closes Regular Season with 60-38 Victory Over Our Lady of the Lake
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS -- The No. 1-seeded LSU Shreveport women's basketball team capped off the regular season in dominant fashion Saturday afternoon, defeating Our Lady of the Lake University, 60-38. The Pilots improve to 24-4 overall and 20-2 in Red River Athletic Conference play, while the Saints close the regular season at 9-19 overall and 8-14 in conference action.
LSUS set the tone early, building a 13-8 lead after the opening quarter behind strong defensive pressure and efficient scoring inside. The Pilots extended their advantage in the second frame, taking a 25-20 lead midway through before closing the half on a surge to carry a 42-34 advantage into the locker room.
Defense proved to be the difference in the second half.
After Our Lady of the Lake trimmed the deficit to three points late in the third quarter, LSUS responded with poise. The Pilots held the Saints to just four points in the final 10 minutes, limiting OLLU to 25 percent shooting for the game and 20 percent from beyond the arc. LSUS forced 25 turnovers and converted those miscues into 19 points, while also dominating the paint with a 30-12 scoring edge and holding a 11-0 advantage in second-chance points.
Ally Fleenor led the Pilots with 18 points, four rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block, controlling the tempo on both ends of the floor. Elaina Burns added 13 points, including timely second-half baskets that helped stretch the lead, while Katie Ambrose finished with 11 points and four rebounds.
Amandine L'Etang anchored the defensive effort with nine rebounds and three blocks, repeatedly altering shots in the paint. Toni Coleman contributed seven rebounds and four steals, helping fuel LSUS' disruptive defensive pressure throughout the contest.
For the Saints, Isabella Jaramillo paced the offense with nine points and five rebounds, while Shayla Dade recorded a double-figure effort with 12 rebounds to go along with eight points.
LSUS shot 43.4 percent from the field compared to OLLU's 25 percent and outrebounded the Saints 37-32. The Pilots also received 16 bench points and built their largest lead to 22 points in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
With the win, LSU Shreveport secures the No. 1 seed in the RRAC Women's Basketball Tournament and will face No. 8 seed Our Lady of the Lake on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m. inside The Dock in Shreveport, Louisiana.
