Pilots Fall Short in 2-1 Battle at No. 5 William Carey

Hattiesburg, Miss. –LSU Shreveport women's soccer turned in a gritty performance on Tuesday afternoon but fell just short in a 2-1 loss on the road to No. 5 William Carey. The Pilots move to 0-2 on the season after a match that was tightly contested until the final minutes.

The Pilots opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Halee Hernandez buried a shot off an assist from Ashley Moore, giving LSUS the early advantage. William Carey responded with goals from Alessia Navarro in the 54th minute and a late penalty from Karen Vilau in the 85th minute to edge out the Pilots.

Between the posts, Elena Lopez was outstanding for LSUS, collecting nine saves and keeping her side within striking distance throughout the contest. The Pilots generated steady pressure of their own, forcing the Crusaders' keeper into five saves.

LSUS will continue its road swing this weekend with a trip to Chickasha, Okla., to take on the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m.
