SHREVEPORT, La. – LSU Shreveport women's soccer dropped a 5-1 result to Cumberland University (Tenn.) on Saturday afternoon in The Swamp. The Pilots move to 1-5 on the season while the Phoenix stand at 6-1.
The Pilots opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Jade Derks converted to give LSUS the early lead. Cumberland responded in the 31st minute with a goal from Sky Hull, sending the match into halftime level at 1-1.
The second half tilted in favor of the visitors as they broke through in the 66th and 73rd minutes with goals from Victoria Collins. Ida Kjallgren added a third in the 76th before assisting Matilda Walker in the 85th to close the scoring.
Between the sticks for LSUS, Elena Lopez played the full 90 minutes and collected seven saves. On the other side, Cumberland's goalkeeper Celia Martin went the distance and finished with three saves while allowing one goal.
The Pilots now turn the page to conference play. LSUS begins Red River Athletic Conference action on Thursday, Sept. 25, hosting Texas A&M–Victoria at The Swamp. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
