Pilots Hold Fast with Eagles, 3-1, After Weather Delay

TEXARKANA, Texas – Despite a nearly two-hour weather delay, the LSU Shreveport women's soccer team stayed focused and delivered a 3-1 road victory over Texas A&M-Texarkana on Saturday night. With the win, the Pilots improve to 9-5 overall and remain perfect in Red River Athletic Conference play at 8-0, while the Eagles drop to 9-4-2 overall and 4-3-1 in conference.

The Pilots struck first when Jillian Rogers found the back of the net in the 19th minute, putting LSUS up 1-0 with her second goal of the season. Before halftime, Jade Derks doubled the lead at the 40-minute mark off an assist from Mada Uriarte, giving the Pilots a 2-0 cushion heading into the break.

Derks continued her strong form early in the second half, netting her ninth goal of the year in the 56th minute on a setup from Ella White, extending the Pilots' lead to 3-0. The Eagles responded less than a minute later with a goal from Lillian Miller, but LSUS held firm the rest of the way to seal the 3-1 win.

Goalkeeper Elena Lopez anchored the Pilot defense, playing all 90 minutes while allowing just one goal and recording six saves. TAMUT's Layla Anaya took the loss, finishing with five saves and three goals allowed.

LSUS returns home to The Swamp on Thursday, October 23, to take on LSU Alexandria. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
