Derks Strikes Twice to Lift LSUS into RRAC Championship Match

Texarkana, Texas – LSU Shreveport women's soccer earned its spot in the Red River Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament Championship with a decisive 2-0 win over LSU Alexandria on Monday afternoon at Judy Kelley Morgan Field.

Sophomore midfielder Jade Derks delivered both goals for the Pilots, leading a balanced and disciplined effort on both ends of the field. Derks put LSUS on the board just before halftime, breaking through in the 44th minute with an unassisted strike. She struck again early in the second half, finishing a feed from Halee Hernandez in the 53rd minute to double the Pilots' advantage.

In goal, Elena Lopez went the full 90 minutes and anchored the LSUS defense with eight saves to secure the clean sheet.

For LSU Alexandria, Yanira Herraez played the full match in goal, making five saves while allowing two scores.

With the victory, LSU Shreveport advances to the RRAC Tournament Championship match and will face the winner of Xavier University of Louisiana and Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m., at Judy Kelley Morgan Field, hosted by Texas A&M University–Texarkana.
