Pilots Fall to Louisiana Christian, 6-1, on Senior Day

SHREVEPORT, La. – The LSU Shreveport women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Louisiana Christian University on Wednesday afternoon at the Pilots Tennis Courts in its home finale.

Prior to the match, LSUS honored seniors Lidia Gomez and Lucia Lucas for their dedication and impact on the program.

Louisiana Christian claimed the doubles point with wins on all three courts. At No. 1 doubles, Lidia Gomez and Ana Mandrot fell 6-3. At No. 2, Sara Sofia Sanchez Molano and Lucia Lucas were defeated 6-3, while Jade Derks and Christlyn Ross dropped a 6-0 decision at No. 3.

In singles play, LSUS picked up its lone point at No. 4. Sara Sofia Sanchez Molano rallied for a three-set victory over Ana Sofia Ferrer Martinez, winning 3-6, 6-2, 10-7.

At the top spot, Lidia Gomez battled to a split through two sets before falling in a match tiebreak, 0-6, 6-4, 10-2. Lucia Lucas was defeated at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-3, while Ana Mandrot dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision at No. 3.

At No. 5, Christlyn Ross fell 6-1, 6-0, and Jade Derks was defeated 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

LSUS will return to action on March 20 as they travel to New Orleans, La. to face Dillard University at 3 p.m.
