LSUS Sweeps Hope International in Doubleheader at Pilot Field

SHREVEPORT, La. -- LSU Shreveport completed a doubleheader sweep of Hope International on Friday at Pilot Field, rallying for a 9–8 victory in Game 1 before securing a 5–2 win in Game 2.

Game 1: LSUS 9, Hope International 8

LSU Shreveport used a late offensive surge to pull out a thrilling 9–8 comeback win over Hope International in the opener of the doubleheader.

The Pilots trailed early but stayed within striking distance before breaking through in the bottom of the eighth inning. LSUS capitalized on key opportunities to plate the go-ahead run and then held on in the ninth to secure the win.

Makana Olaso provided a spark at the plate with a home run, while Carlos Sanchez finished with three hits and two RBI. Spencer Sullivan crossed the plate twice for the Pilots as part of a balanced offensive effort.

On the mound, Joan Roman earned the win after tossing 1.2 scoreless innings in relief to close out the game. Cooper Bagby was charged with the loss for Hope International. There was no save recorded.

Game 2: LSUS 5, Hope International 2

LSU Shreveport completed the sweep with a 5–2 victory in the nightcap, using timely hitting and strong pitching to control the contest.

The Pilots broke the game open in the bottom of the third inning, scoring three runs to take a lead they would not relinquish. LSUS added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to extend the advantage.

Carlos Sanchez continued his strong day at the plate with a two-run triple, while Quaterrion Walton and Spencer Sullivan each reached base multiple times.

Evan Gant earned the win on the mound after throwing three scoreless innings to start the game. The LSUS bullpen of Camden Stephens, Jacobo Gallegos, and Hunter Nichols combined to limit Hope International to two runs over the final six innings. Josh Landry took the loss for the Royals.

LSU Shreveport will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 1, as the Pilots host another doubleheader against Hope International University at Pilot Field. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
