Pilots Open RRAC Play with 18-0 Run-Rule Victory Over Xavier
SHREVEPORT, La. — The LSU Shreveport Pilots opened Red River Athletic Conference play in emphatic fashion Friday night, overwhelming Xavier University of Louisiana, 18-0, in seven innings at Pilot Field.
With the win, LSUS improves to 12-2 overall and 1-0 in RRAC play, while Xavier falls to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
The Pilots wasted no time asserting control. LSUS scored in five of the six offensive innings, highlighted by a four-run second and a seven-run third that blew the game open early. The Pilots added two more runs in the fourth and four in the fifth to secure the run-rule victory.
Senior right-hander David Hankins delivered a dominant performance on the mound. Hankins tossed a seven-inning complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out eight and walking one. He faced only 27 batters in a composed and efficient outing.
Offensively, the Pilots showcased depth throughout the lineup.
Quaterrion Walton paced the attack with a 3-for-3 performance, scoring twice and driving in five runs, including a pair of triples. Bronson Neave contributed two hits and three RBI, while Rodrigo Bravo added two hits and two RBI.
Senior Carlos Vega recorded three hits and an RBI, and Carlos Sanchez produced a two-run double as part of a multi-hit effort. Kobe White and Bula White each drove in runs, helping LSUS tally 16 hits on the night.
The Pilots showed patience at the plate with six walks and limited strikeouts, applying consistent pressure throughout the contest. Defensively, LSUS backed Hankins with steady play, committing just one error while holding Xavier to three hits.
LSUS will look to secure the series Saturday when the Pilots and Gold Rush close out the weekend with a doubleheader beginning at noon at Pilot Field.
