LSU Shreveport Sweeps Xavier with Pair of Seven-Inning Victories

SHREVEPORT, La. – LSU Shreveport baseball capped off a dominant weekend on Saturday, sweeping the doubleheader against Xavier University of Louisiana with 15-0 and 22-0 victories at Pilot Field. With the sweep, LSUS improves to 14-2 overall and 3-0 in RRAC play. Xavier drops to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in conference action.

Game 1: LSUS 15, Xavier 0 (7 innings)

The first game of Saturday's doubleheader was scheduled for seven innings, and the Pilots made the most of it, cruising to a 15-0 shutout victory.

LSUS struck early with two runs in the first inning before breaking the game open with four in the second and eight in the third. The Pilots totaled 12 hits in the contest and consistently applied pressure on the basepaths.

Carlos Sanchez led the way with a 4-for-4 performance, driving in five runs and blasting a home run. Makana Olaso added a double and an RBI, while Nazir Mendez scored three times and drove in two. Brett Justice also finished with two RBIs as LSUS received production throughout the lineup.

On the mound, Brock Lucas earned the win after tossing five shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out six. Hunter Nichols, Jack Savitch, and Luke Shelton combined to complete the shutout as the Pilots limited Xavier to just one hit in the opener.

Game 2: LSUS 22, Xavier 0 (7 innings – run rule)

The Pilots' offense stayed hot in game two, erupting for 22 runs on 22 hits in a 22-0 run-rule victory. 

After a scoreless first inning, LSUS plated nine runs in the second and added five more in the third to quickly create separation. The Pilots continued to tack on runs, showcasing their depth with contributions across the order.

Carlos Vega paced the offense with three hits and three RBIs, while Brett Justice also drove in three runs. Quaterrion Walton recorded a multi-hit performance, and Bula White added two hits. Sanchez continued his strong day at the plate with two hits and an RBI.

Jacobo Gallegos picked up the win, tossing three scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Virot Siharath, Jacob Galaz, Calvin Shepherd, and Robert Lastra combined to preserve the shutout as LSUS completed the doubleheader without surrendering a run.

LSUS will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. as the Pilots host Central Baptist University at Pilot Field.
