Pilots Explode for Four-Run Fourth, Defeat Central Baptist 11-1 in Seven Innings
SHREVEPORT, La. -- LSU Shreveport delivered a complete performance Tuesday afternoon, defeating Central Baptist College, 11-1, in seven innings at Pilot Field.
With the win, the Pilots improve to 15-2 overall, while the Mustangs fall to 9-10.
LSUS struck first in the opening inning when Carlos Sanchez doubled and later scored on a Central Baptist error. Makana Olaso followed with an RBI single to give the Pilots a 2-0 lead. The Pilots added another run in the third before breaking the game open in the fourth.
In the four-run fourth inning, Brett Justice delivered an RBI single, Quaterrion Walton added a two-run base hit, and Sanchez capped the frame with an RBI single to push the lead to 7-0.
Central Baptist scored its lone run in the top of the fifth when George Astacio singled and later came home on a fielder's choice by Will Thompson, cutting the deficit to 7-1. LSUS answered immediately with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to extend the lead to 10-1. The Pilots ended the game in the seventh when Sanchez tripled and Walton scored to enforce the run rule.
Sanchez led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, and four RBIs. Walton finished with two hits and three RBIs, while Rodrigo Bravo added two hits as LSUS totaled 12 hits on the afternoon.
On the mound, Evan Gant earned the win, tossing five innings and allowing just one unearned run on one hit with five strikeouts.
Cade Robin and Virot Siharath combined for two scoreless innings in relief to secure the seven-inning victory.
LSUS returns to action Friday, Feb. 27, traveling to Alexandria, La., to face LSU Alexandria. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
