LSUS Sweeps Saturday Doubleheader at LSU Alexandria
ALEXANDRIA, La. — LSU Shreveport capped off the weekend series with a doubleheader sweep of LSU Alexandria on Saturday, earning a 6-1 victory in Game Two before closing things out with a 14-3 win in Game Three at Generals Baseball Field.
The Pilots improved to 18-2 overall and 6-0 in conference play with the pair of wins.
Game Two – LSUS 6, LSUA 1 (7 Innings)
LSUS set the tone early in the opener of the day. Carlos Sanchez launched a solo home run in the first inning to give the Pilots a quick 1-0 advantage. The Pilots broke things open in the third inning, scoring three runs to stretch the lead to 4-0. Spencer Sullivan delivered a two-run single in the frame as LSUS capitalized on traffic and defensive miscues.
LSUS added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Nazir Mendez recorded an RBI single in the fourth, and Carlos Vega doubled home a run in the fifth to push the lead to 6-0.
On the mound, Brock Lucas delivered six strong innings, allowing one run on five hits while striking out six and walking one to improve to 3-0 on the season. Calvin Shepherd worked a scoreless seventh inning to secure the win.
The Pilots finished with 11 hits in the seven-inning contest.
Game Three – LSUS 14, LSUA 3
LSU Shreveport completed the Saturday sweep with an offensive surge in the finale, defeating LSU Alexandria 14-3. The Pilots erupted for eight runs in the third inning, sending 13 batters to the plate. RBI singles from Carlos Sanchez and Quaterrion Walton, along with additional run-scoring hits from Makana Olaso and Spencer Sullivan, fueled the decisive inning.
LSUS added four more runs in the fifth, highlighted by an RBI single from Landon Hunt and an RBI double from Carlos Vega.
The Pilots totaled 14 runs on 15 hits in the game. Sanchez drove in four runs, while Vega collected four hits. Sullivan added two RBIs in the balanced offensive effort.
On the mound, Jacobo Gallegos started and worked 2.1 innings with four strikeouts. Robert Lastra earned the win in relief, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts to improve to 2-1.
The bullpen quartet of Virot Siharath, Rhys Francis, Jacob Galaz, and Cade Robin combined to finish the game and limit LSU Alexandria to three runs on three hits overall.
LSUS will be back in action on Tues., March 3 when they travel to face Nelson University in Waxahacie, Texas. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
