Pilots Drop Road Contest at Nelson, 12-6

WAXHACHIE, Texas -- LSU Shreveport saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end Tuesday afternoon, falling 12-6 to Nelson University in a nine-inning contest on the road in Waxahachie, Texas.

The Pilots move to 18-3 overall, while Nelson improves to 16-6.

LSUS struck first with a three-run opening frame. After Carlos Sanchez reached and advanced into scoring position, Spencer Sullivan delivered an RBI single, and Makana Olaso added a two-run single to give the Pilots an early 3-0 advantage.

Nelson answered in the bottom of the third, capitalizing on defensive miscues to plate three runs and even the score at 3-3. The Lions took control with a three-run sixth inning and added three more in both the seventh and eighth frames to build a 12-5 cushion.

The Pilots continued to battle offensively. Olaso led the way, finishing 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Sullivan went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base, while Rodrigo Bravo added two hits. Addison Patton drove in a run, and Quaterrion Walton collected an RBI on a bases-loaded walk in the eighth.

LSUS finished with seven hits but committed six errors defensively, which proved costly as Nelson scored multiple unearned runs. Evan Gant took the loss on the mound.

The Pilots will look to bounce back on Thursday, March 5 at 6 p.m. when they return home to face Jarvis Christian University at Pilot Field.
