Pilots Sweep Texas College, 9-4 and 11-1, in RRAC Doubleheader
SHREVEPORT, La. – The LSU Shreveport baseball team continued its strong start to Red River Athletic Conference play on Friday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader from Texas College, 9-4 and 11-1, at Pilot Field.
With the wins, the Pilots improved to 24-3 overall and 11-0 in RRAC play, while Texas College fell to 2-11 overall and 2-9 in conference action. LSUS will look to complete the series sweep when the teams meet again Saturday at noon in Shreveport.
Game 1 – LSUS 9, Texas College 4
After Texas College struck first in the opening inning, LSU Shreveport responded with steady offense to pull away for the victory. The Steers opened the scoring when Jermaine Brown delivered an RBI double in the first inning to score Nehemiah Anderson.
LSUS answered in the second inning and then broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning. The rally featured RBI hits from Nathaniel De La Cruz, Carlos Sanchez, Makana Olaso, and Spencer Sullivan, giving the Pilots control of the game. Sanchez led the Pilots at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs, while De La Cruz added two hits and two RBIs. Landon Hunt also contributed with two hits and a run driven in as LSUS finished with nine hits in the opener.
Texas College collected eight hits in the game, led by Alex Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Jayden Eavens added a hit and scored a run.
On the mound, David Hankins earned the win for the Pilots, tossing five innings while allowing one run and striking out eight. Relievers Calvin Shepherd and Jacob Galaz combined to close out the game for LSUS.
Game 2 – LSUS 11, Texas College 1
The Pilots carried their momentum into the nightcap, scoring early and often in an 11-1 victory.
LSUS jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first inning and continued to add insurance runs throughout the game, including a three-run eighth inning to cap the scoring. Quaterrion Walton paced the Pilots offensively with a 5-for-5 performance and three RBIs, while Carlos Sanchez and Dorien Jackson each homered and drove in two runs. Makana Olaso added a solo home run, and Landon Hunt chipped in with two hits and two RBIs as the Pilots totaled 15 hits in the game.
Texas College's lone run came in the first inning when Gibrant Feliciano delivered an RBI single. The Steers were held to three hits in the game, with Feliciano, Alex Martinez, and Jayden Eavens each recording a hit.
Brock Lucas delivered a dominant performance on the mound for LSUS, pitching seven innings and allowing just one run on three hits while striking out 13 to earn the win. Hunter Nichols worked a scoreless eighth inning in relief to seal the victory.
LSU Shreveport and Texas College will wrap up the three-game RRAC series on Saturday at noon at Pilot Field.
