Pilots Roll to 15-2 Win Over Texas College to Close Series
SHREVEPORT, La. – The LSU Shreveport baseball team capped off a dominant weekend with a 15–2 victory over Texas College on Saturday afternoon to close out the series at Pilot Field.
With the win, the Pilots improve to 25-3 overall and 12-0 in Red River Athletic Conference play, while Texas College falls to 2-12 overall and 2-10 in conference action.
Texas College struck first in the top of the opening inning, plating two runs on three hits. Selvin Anderson highlighted the inning with a two-run home run to give the Steers an early 2-0 lead.
LSU Shreveport responded quickly in the bottom of the second inning. Bronson Neave reached on a walk before Carlos Sanchez delivered an RBI double. Sanchez later scored in the inning as the Pilots pushed across three runs to take a 3-2 lead. The Pilots broke the game open in the fourth. Nazir Mendez led off the inning with a solo home run before Quaterrion Walton drove in a run with a triple. Sanchez followed with an RBI hit, and Dorien Jackson added a two-run double as LSUS plated five runs in the inning to extend the lead to 8-2.
LSUS added two more runs in the fifth inning on RBIs from Walton and Jackson to push the lead to 10-2. The Pilots continued the offensive surge in the sixth inning. Sebastian Harden singled home a run and Nathan Davis followed with an RBI single. Sanchez then capped the inning with a three-run home run, as LSUS scored five more runs to extend the lead to 15-2.
Sanchez paced the Pilots offensively, going 3-for-5 with six RBIs and a home run, while Walton added a triple and two RBIs. Mendez also homered and drove in two runs as LSU Shreveport finished with 11 hits in the contest.
On the mound, Virot Siharath earned the win after throwing four innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out five. Robert Lastra, Cade Robin, and Joan Roman combined to toss three scoreless innings in relief to close out the game.
Texas College starter Dominic Martinez took the loss after allowing seven runs over 3.1 innings. The Steers also received appearances from Andrew Ioera, Ivan Torres, and Mason Hanusch out of the bullpen in the series finale.
LSU Shreveport will return to action on March 17 at 2 p.m. when the Pilots travel to face Texas Wesleyan University.
