Pilots Walk It Off in Extras, Outlast OLLU 11-10 in Series Opener

SHREVEPORT, La. – In a game that had everything, No. 1 LSU Shreveport baseball delivered a dramatic finish Friday night, walking off Our Lady of the Lake, 11-10, in extra innings to open the weekend series at Pilot Field.

The Pilots (27-3, 13-0 RRAC) erased multiple deficits and leaned on late-game execution to secure their first extra-inning victory since May 14, 2024, in the NAIA Opening Round against Talladega College.

LSUS found itself in an early hole as OLLU plated four runs in the top of the first, but the Pilots answered in the third inning. A bases-loaded triple from Dorien Jackson ignited the comeback, and Landon Hunt followed with an RBI knock to even the score at 4-4.

The back-and-forth battle continued throughout the night. OLLU reclaimed the lead in the fourth and again in the sixth, but LSUS kept responding. Carlos Sanchez delivered a key RBI single in the sixth to tie the game at 6-6, part of a strong night at the plate where he finished with multiple hits and three stolen bases.

The Pilots surged ahead in the eighth inning when Hunt launched a two-run home run to put LSUS in front, 9-7. However, the Saints answered in the ninth to force extra innings.

After OLLU pushed across a run in the top of the 10th, LSUS delivered its final answer.

In the bottom half, Rodrigo Bravo reached and Brett Justice followed to spark the rally. A passed ball allowed Spencer Sullivan to score the tying run, setting the stage for Quaterrion Walton, who delivered the game-winning RBI single to bring home Bravo and secure the 11-10 walk-off victory for the Pilots.

At the plate, LSUS tallied 12 hits, with Calvin Shepherd leading the way with three hits and two RBI. Hunt drove in three runs, while Makana Olaso added a home run in the win.

On the mound, the Pilots used a combination of arms to battle through the high-scoring contest. David Hankins got the start, while Evan Gant, Calvin Shepherd, Cade Robin, and Rhys Francis all provided key relief innings to keep LSUS within striking distance. Jack Savitch ultimately earned the win, closing out the 10th inning and setting the stage for the walk-off finish.

With the victory, LSUS remains unbeaten in Red River Athletic Conference play and continues to build momentum as the postseason approaches.

The Pilots will return to Pilot Field on Saturday, March 21, to close the series with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
