Pilots Cruise Past John Melvin, 8-1, on the Road

CROWLEY, La. – LSU Shreveport baseball put together a complete performance on Tuesday afternoon, rolling to an 8-1 victory over John Melvin University at Miller Stadium.

With the win, the Pilots improve to 29-7 overall and continue to build momentum heading into a home matchup against the University of the Southwest on Thursday, April 2 at 6 p.m. at Pilot Field.

LSUS totaled eight runs on eight hits while drawing 11 walks, using patience at the plate and timely hitting to control the game. The Pilots broke things open in the middle innings and added insurance late to secure the win.

Makana Olaso led the offensive effort with a big day at the plate, launching two home runs and driving in multiple runs. Carlos Sanchez added three RBIs, while Dorien Jackson and Quaterrion Walton each contributed run-producing hits as part of a balanced attack.

On the mound, LSU Shreveport's pitching staff turned in a strong collective outing, limiting John Melvin to just one run on nine hits. Calvin Shepherd earned the win after allowing one run over his inning of work, while the bullpen combined to keep the opposition off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

The Pilots' defense also played a key role, turning multiple double plays to help preserve the lead and keep John Melvin from building momentum.
