SHREVEPORT, La. – LSU Shreveport men's soccer kept its strong start to Red River Athletic Conference play rolling on Saturday afternoon, shutting out North American University 4-0 in The Swamp. With the victory, the Pilots move to 4-0-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Stallions drop to 2-4-1 and 1-1-1 in RRAC action.
The Pilots opened the scoring early when Aksel Battal finished a well-built attack in the 10th minute, assisted by Jaime Zani and Carlos Oliveira. Jack Thomas doubled the advantage before halftime, burying a feed from Jordan Mati in the 37th minute to send LSUS into the break up 2-0.
The Pilots kept the pressure on in the second half, adding insurance goals late in the match. David Vejsmose capitalized in the 75th minute off a setup from Jacob Botterill, and just four minutes later, Mathias Martinez de Sucre joined the scoresheet with Botterill earning his second assist of the afternoon.
Goalkeeper Sondre Liahagen-Kolnes went the full 90 minutes, securing the clean sheet for LSUS. On the other side, NAU split time between Gino Burioni—who played 37 minutes with one save—and Sofiene Hammami, who closed out the match without recording a save in 52 minutes of action.
LSUS will be back on the field Thursday, Oct. 2, traveling to Hobbs, N.M., to face the University of the Southwest. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
