HOBBS, N.M. – LSU Shreveport men's soccer kept its unbeaten season rolling with a 3-2 road victory over the University of the Southwest on Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Pilots improve to 5-0-5 overall and 3-0 in Red River Athletic Conference play, while the Mustangs fall to 0-2 both overall and in league action.
Southwest opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Yahir Chacon connected off an assist from Hiram Chavez. The Pilots quickly settled in and equalized in the 30th minute as David Vejsmose found the back of the net to make it 1-1 at halftime.
After the break, LSUS gained momentum. Joel Trueb put the Pilots ahead in the 57th minute, but the Mustangs responded just two minutes later with another goal from Chacon, this time assisted by Malachi Rodriguez, to level the score at 2-2.
The decisive moment came in the 72nd minute when Jaime Zani delivered the game-winner for the Pilots, sealing the 3-2 result.
LSUS goalkeeper Sondre Liahagen-Kolnes went the full 90 minutes without facing a shot on target, while Southwest's Stephen Chairez made seven saves but conceded three.
The Pilots return home to The Swamp on Saturday, Oct. 4, for a conference clash against Texas College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
