SHREVEPORT, La. – No. 12 LSU Shreveport men's soccer capped off Senior Day in style with a commanding 6–2 win over Texas A&M–San Antonio on Saturday afternoon at The Swamp. The Pilots remain unbeaten on the season, improving to 8-0-5 overall and 6-0 in Red River Athletic Conference play. The Jaguars fall to 6-3-1 overall and 3-3 in conference action.
The Pilots' attack ignited early as Jack Thomas opened the scoring in the 18th minute off a pinpoint assist from Jaime Zani. The Jaguars found an equalizer in the 26th minute through Ronald Aguilar, but LSUS quickly regained control with a three-goal surge before halftime.
Zani put the Pilots back in front in the 29th minute, assisted by Joel Trueb, and seconds later, Thomas struck again — this time on another setup from Zani. Senior Aksel Battal joined the scoring action in the 41st minute off helpers from David Vejsmose and Carlos Oliveira, and Vejsmose capped the explosive first half with a goal of his own in the 45th minute, assisted by Thomas, to make it 5–1.
TAMUSA pulled one back in the 55th minute when Andres Rodriguez scored off a pair of passes from Jacob Olivares and Christian Sanchez, but Battal responded in the 69th minute with his second goal of the match to seal the 6–2 victory.
In goal, Sondre Liahagen-Kolnes played 49 minutes, allowing one goal with two saves, while Pieri Mack finished the final 20 minutes with one goal allowed and two saves. TAMUSA's Dominic Pena made three saves while conceding five goals in 66 minutes of action, and Oscar Garza allowed one goal with one save in three minutes of play.
Following the match, LSUS recognized its six seniors — Caleb Marchany, Aksel Battal, Carlos Oliveira, Fernando Beraldes, Jordan Bidaisee, and Jack Thomas — for their leadership and dedication to the Pilots program.
LSUS will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 16, traveling to Hawkins, Texas, to face Jarvis Christian University. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
